Vinyl Records and Business Processes: Why the Old Ways Still Have Value
Over the last five years or so, there has been a huge resurgence of analogue pastimes. Playing board games, writing notes with a fountain pen, and of course, the tactile way to enjoy music; vinyl.
I recently spent a Sunday afternoon just playing some of my vinyl collection. There’s something magical about the ritual: pulling out a record, brushing off the dust, lowering the stylus, and hearing that warm crackle before the music starts.
It got me thinking - this deliberate, tactile experience has a lot in common with how I like to approach business processes.
Don’t get me wrong - I love tech. But in the rush to digitise every aspect of work, we’ve lost some of the care, patience, and understanding that comes with doing things the "slow" way. And in my line of work - whether it's building quality systems, managing bids, or untangling someone's commercial processes - those old-school principles still hold a lot of value.
Vinyl Needs Setup - So Do Solid Business Processes
You can’t play a record straight out of the sleeve without some prep. You need the right speed, the right stylus, and a steady hand. It’s the same with business systems. Too many businesses want instant automation without first understanding what their process actually is.
Just like a turntable needs calibration, your workflows need proper setup - especially before digitisation. Otherwise, you’re just automating chaos.
Analogue Doesn’t Mean Outdated
Vinyl didn’t disappear when CDs came along. It adapted, found its niche, and actually outlived its replacement in many ways. The same goes for "analogue" practices in business -things like physically reviewing contracts, taking handwritten notes during meetings, or walking through a process map on paper.
These aren’t signs of being behind the times. They’re signs of being present. And sometimes, they’re the only way to catch the details the software misses.
Quality Over Convenience Wins in the Long Run
Sure, streaming a song is easier than playing a record. But with vinyl, you listen. You hear things you don’t get on compressed digital files. The experience is richer - because you're paying attention.
In business, we see the same thing. Rushing through a tender to "get it submitted" or throwing a template at a commercial agreement rarely ends well. The best outcomes come when you slow down, engage with the content, and take the time to do things properly.
So no, we're not suggesting you replace your CRM system with a Rolodex or track invoices with a quill pen. But sometimes, going analogue - even just for a moment - helps us reconnect with what matters: clarity, focus, and quality.
And that’s exactly what we bring to the table.
Need help setting up systems that don’t just run fast—but run well?
Let’s talk. We specialise in building business processes with the care and clarity of a vinyl pressing - and the results play beautifully.
